Our oil

What exactly is cold-pressed rapeseed oil?+

It’s oil made simply by pressing rapeseed at low temperature — no heat, no chemicals, no refining. That gentle process keeps the oil’s natural golden colour, nutty flavour and nutrients intact. We grow the rapeseed, press it, filter it and bottle it all on our own farm.

How is it different from supermarket rapeseed or “vegetable” oil?+

Most supermarket rapeseed and vegetable oils are extracted with heat and chemical solvents, then refined until they’re pale, thin and lacking flavour. Ours is cold-pressed and extra virgin — never chemically extracted, with nothing added and nothing taken away. You get more flavour, more colour and more natural goodness, which is why so many people use it as a British alternative to extra virgin olive oil.

Is it good for me?+

Rapeseed oil is one of the kinder oils in the kitchen: it has less than half the saturated fat of olive oil, is naturally high in omega-3 and is a natural source of vitamin E. Because ours is cold-pressed and unrefined, that natural goodness stays in the bottle. (This is general information, not dietary or medical advice.)

Can I cook with it, or is it just for dressing?+

Both. Cold-pressed rapeseed oil has a naturally high smoke point, so it’s just as happy roasting, frying and baking as it is dressing, dipping and drizzling. Our Roasting oil is a particular favourite for the crispiest roast potatoes. It’s also thicker than most oils, so it clings and coats well — meaning a little goes a long way and you tend to use less.

Why does the colour or flavour vary a little between bottles?+

Because it’s a natural, single-farm product. Colour and flavour shift gently with each harvest and pressing — a sign that it’s genuinely cold-pressed and unrefined, rather than blended and standardised like mass-market oils.

Where it comes from

Where is your oil made?+

Every bottle comes from Wade Lane Farm in Staffordshire, where the Froggatt family have farmed for over 100 years and produced award-winning rapeseed oil for around 20. It’s grown, harvested, pressed, filtered and bottled on the farm — 100% traceable.

Is it really 100% British?+

Yes — grown and pressed on our own Staffordshire farm, never imported or blended with oils from elsewhere.

Has it won any awards?+

It has — our cold-pressed rapeseed oil is a multiple Great Taste Award winner, with stars in 2012 (2 stars), 2015 (1 star), 2020 (2 stars), 2022 (1 star) and 2025 (2 stars).

Dietary & allergens

Are your products vegan and vegetarian?+

Most of our oils and salad dressings are suitable for vegetarians and vegans. The exception among the dressings is our Honey & Mustard dressing, which contains honey — so it’s vegetarian but not vegan. Our Classic and Garlic mayonnaise and the hollandaise contain egg (the hollandaise also contains milk), so they’re vegetarian but not vegan — for a plant-based option, try our Classic Vegan and Vegan Garlic mayonnaise.

Are they gluten free?+

Yes — our oils, dressings, mayonnaise and hollandaise are all gluten free.

Where can I find allergen information?+

Full ingredients and allergens are on every product page (in the “Ingredients & allergens” section) and printed on every label, with allergens always shown in bold. If you’re ever unsure, get in touch before you order.

Are your products GM free?+

Yes.

Storage & shelf life

What’s the shelf life?+

Our oils, dressings, mayonnaise and hollandaise arrive with at least 12 months’ shelf life, and every bottle carries a clear best-before date. Because we make in small batches and send straight from the farm, they’re at their best well within that.

How should I store it?+

Keep it somewhere cool and dark, out of direct sunlight — a cupboard is perfect, and there’s no need to refrigerate the rapeseed oils. The one exception is our human-consumption linseed oil: keep that in the fridge once opened.

There’s some sediment, or it’s gone cloudy — is that a problem?+

Not at all. A little natural sediment, or slight cloudiness if the oil gets cold, is completely normal for a genuine cold-pressed, unrefined oil. Bring it back to room temperature and give it a gentle shake and it’ll clear.

Linseed oil

What is your linseed oil for pets, and which animals is it for?+

It’s the original natural superfood supplement for horses, ponies, dogs and cats. A daily drizzle of pure cold-pressed linseed (flaxseed) oil in the feed helps build condition in weeks — softening and shining the coat, supporting the immune system and aiding healthy digestion. It’s naturally rich in omega-3 and readily taken even by fussy feeders.

How much should I give my animal?+

Every bottle carries a simple dosage guide — start with the recommended amount for your animal’s size and adjust from there. If you’re not sure, get in touch and we’ll happily advise.

Can I take the linseed oil myself?+

Yes — our 250ml linseed (flaxseed) oil is a cold-pressed, extra virgin oil for human consumption and a simple daily addition to a healthy diet. Enjoy it cold: stirred into smoothies, yoghurt or dressings, or drizzled over food. Don’t cook with it, as heat damages the delicate omega-3s, and keep it refrigerated once opened.

How much is delivery, and how quickly will it arrive?+
